This board is affordable and impressively fast, but it falls short in elements such as uphill power and especially range

Our Verdict

If you're in the market for an electric skateboard and speed and affordability are primary purchasing factors for you, the Meepo V3 is a good choice. At a fraction of the highest performing models, it offers great value for speed demons. Not surprisingly, with the phenomenal speed it offers, it does not have the most impressive range. We also found it's braking, hill climbing, and overall ride to be sort of so-so.

Our Analysis and Test Results

While we love how fast this board goes, we found some flaws in regard to the overall ride such as its braking capacity, uphill power, and a bit of an uncomfortable deck.

Speed

For our most heavily weighted metric, we conducted several time trials to measure maximum speed as well as acceleration.

For this portion of our assessment, we found a parking lot with a long stretch of flat ground. At maximum speed, we timed how long it took each model to travel 200 feet. We repeated these trials and then took an average of the times. We measured the Meepo V3 to have a phenomenal maximum speed of a breakneck 22.04 mph.

To gauge acceleration, we, again, ran a time trial three times. For this half of the metric, we measured how long it took for each model to travel 50 feet from a dead stop. With one of the fastest times, the Meepo V3 showed an average of 4.28 seconds.

Range

For the range metric, we skated in loops on a flat parking lot at a speed of 12 mph until the batteries died. We then carefully observed how long it took each battery to fully charge. The Meepo V3 did not do well in this portion of our review.

Sadly, it only ran for a distance of 8.6 miles, with the last ½ mile being a definite struggle. Although this isn't the worst range we've seen out of an electric skateboard, some of the highest scoring models can shred for 15, 20, or even 30 miles. That said, it does have a relatively quick charge time of a mere 50 minutes.

Ride

Ride is a very easy metric for our team to test. For this section, our testers took the boards to the streets to carve some turns and assess the overall comfort and fun factor. We took into account the overall comfort of the decks, the feel of the griptape, and the cornering capabilities.

The Meepo V3 did fairly well for this assessment. It has a decent concave and a good-feeling flex. However, it seems to vibrate quite a bit on rough asphalt compared to boards with bigger wheels. It handles well at high speeds thanks to its longer wheelbase. However, along with the longer wheelbase comes a larger turning radius. This is not the most maneuverable model that we've skated.

Hills

One of the primary reasons to get an electric skateboard is to avoid pushing uphill. For this section we found a hill with gradually increasing steepness to determine each model's climbing power.

The Meepo V3 showed ok results for this metric as well. Although it wasn't quite as fast as the top scoring models, it did eventually make it to the top of our testing hill while several others failed. The fastest models made it to the top in 20-30 seconds, the V3 made it up in 52 seconds.

Build

The construction of an electric skateboard is important. When making an investment such as this, the last thing you want is for the thing to fall apart. Also, weight is an important factor to consider, especially if you're going to be using your board to commute and you're going to end up carrying it around inside buildings. We carefully measured and inspected the physical attributes of the boards for this metric.

This board is fairly large and weighs 16.9 lbs. We did, however, find the handle on the deck to be especially useful. The remote is ergonomic and we did not find any issues with establishing a remote between it and the board.

Braking

We dedicated the last portion of our review to a braking experiment. We measured the distance it took each model to go from 12 mph to a complete descent, and then also subjectively judged their stopping power upon descent of our testing hill.

This model did fairly well for this metric. Hub motor skateboards can be a little bit sluggish when it's time to slow down, but the Meepo V3 got it done in an average of 38 feet. We also found no problems with slowing down on a fairly steep decline of 15%.

Value

If you like to go fast and you aren't too worried about range, we think the Meepo V3 is the way to go if you're shopping on a budget.

Conclusion

All in all, our opinion is that the Meepo V3 is a decent option. It's affordable, it goes fast as heck, and it performs just under par in most other elements when compared to boards that cost significantly more.
